95 Crewe cadets help put us back on the sporting map!

The last couple of months has seen a fantastic achievement from three of our newest female cadets. After attending the initial trials all 3 Crewe cadets were selected to play for the Wing Hockey team. They faced some tough competition at RAF Cosford and this saw two of the three being selected to play again at the regional level. This is a rare achievement for Crewe as female cadets have not been selected to play at this level before.

The two selected to play for Wales and West region had a fantastic game and ended their last match both scoring a goal each. This saw the team win for the region! So they have now now only represented the squadron, Wing and Region they won the games too! Well done to all three!!

Crewe Squadron sees Change through Promotions

7th October brought some changes with it as some of our cadets found themselves being promoted to the next rank. Cadets had to apply in writing for their promotions, followed by an interview. Promotions were made based on their attendance, commitment and attitude along with their aspirations for the next year. If all of these aspirations are met in the next 12 months then 95 Crewe Squadron is definatley the place to be! Congratulations to all those who were promoted!

95 Crewe Cadets at Battle of Britain Parade

95 Crewe cadets put on their uniforms once again (third parade) to parade in the Battle of Britain parade in Nantwich. The Crewe cadets actually outnumbered the turn out from our neighbouring Nantwich Squadron and once again did the squadron proud by shining their shoes and having very smart uniforms on the day.

on 11th September, Cadets from 95 Crewe sqd joined the celebrations for the 70th Anniversary of the Air cadets by marching with over 900 other cadets from Staffordshire Wing in Litchfield. The parade saw every squadron banner, two bands and numerous flights march throughout Litchfield along with attending the service at Litchfield cathedral. It was a rare parade that some cadets will no see or be involved with again and Crewe cadets where on a definite high after taking part!

Cadets take part in Parade for reopening of Queen's Park

Cadets from 95 Crewe took part in the recent re opening ceremony of Queens Park. The parade went from Pyms Lane to the park. It was a very warm day and a long march but the cadets managed to remain look smart throughout the whole parade. we received many comments about their appearance and they really did themselves proud!

Summer Swynnerton Success 2011

7 male cadets and 2 female cadets got chance to experience Summer Swynnerton from 26th August to 1st september. Activities ranged from shooting, flying, learning field craft skills with the Anrmy's tactical Support Unit, Mountain Biking, Drill, Climbing and kayaking.

Crewe cadets really enjoyed themselves and made many new friends.

CWO Bates returns from the middle east

We are pleased to report that our CWO, Vici Bates has returned from her International Air Cadets Exchange visit to Israel. During the trip, she was able to experience Jewish life with an Israeli host family, visited various Israeli Air Force Bases and was able to take a look around their state of the art equipment and aircraft.

The IACE delegation travelled the length and breadth of Israel and visited sites of religious and historical importance, such as Jerusalem, Masada, the Golan Heights, as well as swimming in the Dead Sea, the Red Sea, and Mediterranean. As VIP's of the Israeli military, they experienced the finest Israeli delicacies.

5 NCO's complete Gold Duke of Edinburgh Expedition

We are very proud of their efforts and achievement, and look forward to them completeing the rest of their award so they may attend their formal presentations from the Duke of Edinburgh himself.

Cadets from 95 (Crewe) Squadron enjoyed a week of activities in the Cornwall sunshine at the end of July, including a visit to the Eden Project, 25 minutes of flying, survival skills and training, shooting, and sports and leadership exercises.

4 NCO cadets complete Gold D of E practice

4 of our NCOs walked about 25 miles on Saturday and continued to walk in North Wales over the weekend as part of their gold Duke of Edinburgh award.

Lions Association kindly donate to the squadron

Each year the Lions Association hold an event in which make donations to nominated charities. This year 95 (Crewe) Squadron along with the Samaritans were two of the nominated organisations. We would like to thank the Lions for their kind donation to the squadron.

Cadets help at 1000 Engine Traction Rally

Crewe cadets helped organisers at the 1000 engine event by car parking. We are especially good at carparking (including helping people to find their car in a field!) and have had many years of practice. Car parking is a great fundraising event for the squadron and is helping us get on track to achieve the box trailer that is at the top of our wish list.

Cadets from 95 Crewe Squadron attended a prestigious event at Harthill on the Bolesworth Estate on Friday 24th June 2011. Cadets helped serve food and clear plates from guests during the evening. They were in their wedgewood uniform and looked exceptionally smart.

Cadets from 95 Crewe came to the rescue and stepped in at the last minute to help marshall the Mayor's charity Bike ride on 19th June. Cadets pointed the cyclists at two points in Crewe town centre making sure all those who took part didn't get lost!

95 Crewe fundraise at Bolesworth

95 Crewe Cadets helped in the main arena for the 3rd year at the Bolesworth Classic event.

Despite the weather on Sunday, the cadets worked hard and listened carefully to instructions given to them.

Bolesworth commented: "your cadets tackled it with great humour and we have had nothing but positive feedback from the course building team as well as competitors and the public"

The staff at the squadron are very proud of all those who attended this fundraising event, we hope to buy a box trailer soon.

95 Crewe try their best at Wing Field Day 2011

95 Crewe came 5 places higher than last year despite having less cadets at the event. The squadron had a great day out at the Wing field day 2011.

Out of the 32 Squadrons that competed we came a modest 12th. Next year hopefully our new recruits will be ready to move us up a few more places. Who knows we may edge closer to the 1st place...??

This year we have 3 Male and 2 Female cadet places and 3 staff places for this year's UK based summer camp. The camp will be at RAF St Mawgan (which is next to Newquay Airport, Cornwall).

We will leave on the 23rd July and return on 30th July, hopefully the weather will be good for us all!

Activities for the camp are still to be confirmed, but we will update soon!

Crewe Cadets involved with Wing Band

This year we have 5 Cadets in the award winning Wing Band:

Cdt Steal, Sgt Montague, Sgt King, Cpl Payne and Cpl Gaffney are all our Squadron musicians and are doing the squadron proud in this marching band.

The marching band goes to different events and have various practices through out the year.

4 Crewe Cadets are Flying Abroad!!

We have had an amazing stroke of luck on the squadron this year and are very proud to announce that we have 4 of our Cadet NCOs jetting off all over the world on overseas camps.

First up we had Sgt Laura Montague who went to RAF Troodos in Cyprus for 10 days.

Next we have CWO Vici Bates who is soon flying with the International Air Cadet exchange (IACE) to Israel on 18 July. For more information about IACE view this link: http://www.iacea.com/ And then we have Cpl Payne and Sgt King both of whom are going to RAF Troodos in Cyprus for 10 days.

It is very very rare to secure this many overseas places in the same year. We are very proud of our NCOs who managed to get a place and look forward to putting pictures up on the website soon!!

Cadets and Staff prepare for Bolesworth 2011

Last year we rasied an amazing £1600 from Bolesworth. We donated £1000 to our favoured charity help for heros and used £600 to pay for our mini bus.

Bolsworth is a horse riding event where staff, the civilian committee and cadets all pull together and work hard, whilst having fun. This year is a 4 day event and we will once again be in our bright orange squadron T-Shirts.

AIR CADETS FROM CREWE AND NANTWICH SQUADRONS REMEMBER 70 YEARS OF THE

Air Cadets from 95 (Crewe) and 100 (Nantwich) Squadrons paraded through Nantwich on Sunday 19th September to remember ‘the few’ who gave their lives for their country during the Battle of Britain on 15th September 1940; 70 years ago.
Parents and civilian committee members supported the cadets and staff on Sunday, by following behind the parade, which formed up outside the Civic Hall and marched up to the Cenotaph. The parade was joined by veterans from the wars and the general public for the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain dedication. Colours and parade standards were formed up around the Cenotaph for the short but moving service, before the Last Post was played.

The cadets then led the parade back to the Civic Hall. Both squadrons were well represented and Flight Lieutenant Kathy Stubbs, Officer Commanding 95 (Crewe) Squadron led the parade with Flying Officer Malcom Hilditch, Officer in Charge 100 (Nantwich) Squadron. The parade commander for the day was Sgt Andrew Lennon ATC, and Civilian Instructor Keith Goodall was the bugler, both of whom are staff at 95 (Crewe) Squadron.

Flt Lt Kathy Stubbs said, after the parade, “the march through the town by cadets and staff from the Air Training Corps, followed by a well-attended service of dedication outside the Cenotaph, was repeated today around the country. With over 1000 squadrons in the Air Training Corps, it is unlikely that any major town or city escaped the Battle of Britain parades this weekend. All of the towns and cities in the United Kingdom were affected in one way or another during the Second World War and more specifically during the Battle of Britain. Cadets from both Crewe and Nantwich air cadet squadrons are highly regarded in their respective towns and are always commended on their behaviour, appearance, independence and adventurous spirit. I am proud to be a part of this community spirit.”

CREWE & NANTWICH CADETS PROMOTE BOMBER COMMAND MEMORIAL APPEAL

Air Cadets from 95 (Crewe) and 100 (Nantwich) Squadrons participated in the parade at Bridgemere Garden World in aid of promoting the Bomber Command Memorial Appeal.

Cadets and Staff from both Squadrons joined forces with Veterans from Bomber Command and helped promote the appeal at Bridgemere Garden World on Sunday 8 August 2010. The appeal is designed to raise money for a memorial to be erected in Green Park in London to honour the 55,573 aircrew who paid the ultimate sacrifice during WWII to ensure our freedom.

Cadets and staff participated in a bespoke parade through Bridgemere Garden World, proudly parading the Royal Air Force ensign, Royal British Legion ensign, 95 (Crewe) Squadron ATC ensign and the 100 (Nantwich) Squadron ATC ensign. The cadets and staff also helped sell raffle tickets for a Bomber Command painting worth over £5000, and helped promote the appeal by rallying support from customers.

The cadets and staff thoroughly enjoyed themselves and felt proud to have been involved with the appeal, which also has its own website www.bombercommand.com.

CREWE AIR CADETS RAISE OVER £1000 FOR HELP FOR HEROS AT BOLESWORTH

Air Cadets and staff from 95 (Crewe) Squadron ATC spent the weekend at Bolesworth Show Jumping Classic & Country Fair event restoring jumps, conducting car parking duties and raising money for the Help for Heros charity.

The Air Cadets in Crewe have agreed to raise money for the Help for Heros charity this year and kindly volunteered to restore the jumps in the Castle Arena, conduct car parking duties and run a stall selling Help for Heros branded items at Bolesworth Show Jumping Classic and Country Fair event from Thursday 15^th – Sunday 18^th July.

A total of eighty man-days’ effort was put in by the cadets and staff to help at the annual event, and their efforts were rewarded by a donation from Bolesworth for their efforts. In addition to the duties they performed, members of the Civilian Committee and Squadron staff ran a stall raising over £900 from sales and donations from the public. The cadets, staff and civilian committee unanimously agreed to donate a portion of the funding to the Help for Heros Charity bringing the total raised to £1000.

This is the second time Crewe Air Cadets have helped out at Bolesworth and they thoroughly enjoyed it, despite them being kept busy for four long days. “The Cadets always love attending events such as Bolesworth as they not only get to experience the event first-hand but also have some input into it. Their efforts are always commended by the organisers and the general public alike, and the staff and I receive nothing but praise. Similarly to last year the NCOs (senior ranked cadets) were allowed to camp overnight giving them an opportunity to relax and become stronger as a group”, said Flt Lt Kathy Stubbs, OC 95 Sqn.

Helping out at events such as Bolesworth gives young people the opportunity to enjoy the outdoor life and meet people all whilst learning team working, leadership and philanthropic skills. The Crewe Air Cadets are an outgoing group of young people determined to experience something different, and not be restricted to wandering the streets, playing on their game consoles all day, or causing trouble in their local area. The opportunities, skills and citizenship training that the cadet forces provide, whether it be Air Cadets, Army Cadets or Sea Cadets, is second to none.

Chris Goodall, an ex-cadet from Crewe Squadron, and now a Civilian Instructor, commented that “I don’t know of any youth organisation which offers as much variety as the Air Training Corps. Flying & gliding lessons are free, camps and visits are subsidised, adventure training is key and difficult skills are tried and often mastered by the young people.”

CREWE AIR CADETS JOIN IN WITH MAYOR MAKING

Cadets and staff from 95 (Crewe) Squadron ATC joined in the Mayor Making of Cllr Jacquie Weatherill at the Municipal Buildings in Crewe on the eve of Thursday 3^rd June 2010. During the evening’s proceedings, the cadets were duly welcomed and thanked during the Mayor’s acceptance speech, for their assistance.

Flight Lieutenant Kathy Stubbs, Officer Commanding 95 (Crewe) Squadron was accompanied by five air cadets from her Squadron and three members of the Civilian Committee, Cllr Terry Beard (Past-Chairman), Mrs Ellie Payne (Secretary) and Mrs Sally Brady on the eve of Thursday 3^rd June 2010 to witness and partake in the celebrations of the newly elected Mayor of Crewe, Cllr Jacquie Weatherill, who succeeds Cllr Dorothy Flude, for the coming year.

The cadets were invited along and circulated with the distinguished guests whilst serving canapés. Flt Lt Kathy Stubbs was frequently commended on the cadets’ behaviour and smartness, and duly thanked the Mayor for the invitation to play a part in the evening’s ceremony. Flt Lt Kathy Stubbs had this to say about the cadets: “The cadets work hard within the local community and support their town in many civil and community events and functions. It is always a delight to hear and receive thanks from the local councillors, organisation leaders and citizens of the town. I recently took command of Crewe Squadron and I am regularly surprised by the community spirit within the Squadron and the cadets rarely let themselves, the Squadron or myself down. I am very proud of them and hope we can work with the Mayor and the council over the coming year.”
